Wheat's story
Wheat was one of four kittens born in our care to a feral mom. She and her siblings had a rough start, fighting off infection their mother unwittingly passed on to her babies. As they grew, they were in and out of quarantine with symptoms they couldn't quite kick. While the others pushed through, however, Wheat was falling behind, becoming noticeably smaller than the rest of the litter. For this reason, she was sent to a foster home, where she received a much-needed boost via lots of love and scrambled eggs. Wheat wasn't quite sure of people at first, but then she met Juice, another kitten who hadn't been thriving in the shelter and was sent to foster care. The two of them became fast friends, and Juice's outgoing disposition helped her foster sister gain confidence. Once the pair were good and healthy, they returned to the shelter to await adoption. Wheat was still a bit wary of strangers then, but a nice family adopted the pair of them (along with their roommate Moscato), ensuring she still had the support she needed. Juice, Wheat, and Moscato were sadly returned to us as young adults due to allergy concerns. Looking at Wheat now, you'd never guess this beautiful, big girl was the runt of the litter, and she has truly blossomed into a friendly, self-assured feline. Still, she and Juice have been through too much together to separate them now, plus they just look so sweet when they groom each other. They're the cutest "two-fur" around!
